Gilgit-Baltistan
Hunza
Apricot orchards beneath seven-thousand-metre walls.
When to go
April to June, September to October
Hunza is less a place than a slow exhalation. The road climbs out of the Indus gorge and the world rearranges itself: terraced fields step toward the sky, watchtowers rise from the rock, and the wind carries the smell of woodsmoke and ripening fruit.
We work with families whose ancestors were the custodians of Baltit and Altit forts. Mornings are spent walking the irrigation channels with elder farmers; evenings are private dinners on rooftops, the peaks turning amber, then violet, then unseen.
